Sri Lanka Banned Danushka Gunathilaka From all Forms of Cricket
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) banned Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket after the sexual harassment incident. In a press release, the SLC said, ‘The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket bans Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. And Gunathilaka, who was accused and arrested for sexual assault in Australia, will no longer be considered by the selectors.’
Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested from the team hotel for sexual harassment. It is known that the rest of the cricketers of the World Cup team have returned to Sri Lanka without him. Last Saturday night (local time) this left-handed batter was arrested by the Sydney police.
Gunathilaka was in Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad. He went down with a hamstring injury during the first round. Ashen Bandara was taken in his place. However, Gunathilaka was left with the team in Australia without being sent back to the country. After that, he got involved in controversial activities.
Gunathilaka sexually assaulted a 29-year-old woman, Sydney police said. The New South Wales police said in a statement that the Lankan cricketer had been in contact with the woman for several days through a dating app. Later met with him. According to the complaint, Gunathilaka sexually assaulted her at a residence in Rose Bay last Wednesday (November 2) evening.
