Steve Smith to Lead Australia Against India ODI Series 2023
Steven Smith replaced Pat Cummins to lead Australia in the last two Tests of the series and will also lead the team in the ODI series against India in 2023. Australia’s regular captain Pat Cummins returned home after the second Test of the series against India in Delhi. Family illness is the main reason. Originally, Pat Cummins’ mother had been suffering from cancer for a long time. My physical condition was not good. Cummins left the series to stay with his mother in Sydney.
That mother finally gave up on the fight for life. Cummins’ mother crossed the land of no return during the fourth and final Test of the series. Cummins is no longer coming to India after the death of his mother. Staying with family. And so this star pacer is not playing in the ODI series. As a result, the captaincy has been handed over to Smith. Australian team coach Andrew Macdonald confirmed this.
Aaron Finch announced his retirement from ODI cricket last year. After that, the leadership of the team was handed over to Cummins. He has played only two matches since being given the lead in ODIs. Losing Cummins is big news for Australia. Because two more star pacers Jos Hazlewood and Jhai Richardson are not playing in the series already. Only Richardson has been replaced by Nathan Ellis.
India and Australia will face each other in the first ODI at the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 17. After that, the remaining two ODIs of the series will be played in Visakhapatnam on March 19 and Chennai on March 22.
