Shannon Gabriel Makes Return to West Indies ODI team After 2019

After a long time, Shannon Gabriel makes a return to the West Indies ODI team, he last played ODI for the national team in 2019. The West Indies Cricket Board has announced the squad against South Africa in 2023.

Gabriel recently returned to international cricket with a Test against Zimbabwe. He was the highest wicket-taker in the Super Fifty Cup last year. As a result, Gabriel got a place in the ODI team. Announcing the team, West Indies chief selector Desmond Heison said, ‘We have a few injuries in the fast bowling department. That’s why we felt it was important to have Gabriel on the team.

Cricket West Indies said Zayden Sills will miss the series due to knee surgery. Besides him, Anderson Phillips is also absent from the series against the Proteas. Spin-bowling all-rounder Roston Chase has returned to the ODI squad after a year. Shai Hope will lead the Caribbean in this series. On February 16, the board made him the ODI captain.

On the other hand, Obed McCoy got a place in the West Indies team for three T20Is. Bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd got a chance after top-order batsman Evin Lewis was dropped. West Indies will play three ODIs against South Africa from March 16 to 21. The T20 matches will be played on three grounds from March 25 to 28.
