As Pakistan dominated the first match by 88 runs, it is unlikely their side will make too many changes for this second match. Pakistan’s batting line-up will be heavily dependent on the wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, the captain Babar Azam, the in-form batter Fakhar Zaman, the rookie batsman Saim Ayyub, the all-rounder Shadab Khan, and the experienced batsman Iftikar Ahmed. Pakistan will also have access to the services of the hard-hitting batter Faheem Ashraf.
With the bat, Saim Ayyub displayed outstanding form for Pakistan in the first match of the series. In his inning, he struck 2 sixes and 6 fours, finishing with a score of 47 runs from 28 balls. Fakhar Zaman also scored 47 runs from 34 balls with 2 sixes and 4 fours, in addition to Ayyub. It is expected that bowlers like Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, and Zaman Khan will share the fast-bowling load as far as the Pakistani bowling attack is concerned. In the middle overs of this game, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim will attempt to dislodge the Kiwi batters.
With 4 wickets for 17 runs in 3.3 overs, Pakistan’s seamer Haris Rauf stood out as the standout performer in the first game of the series. Pakistan have named their full-strength team for this T20I series against the Kiwis. Apart from Rauf, Imad Wasim also picked up a couple of wickets from the couple of overs he bowled in the game. It was an honor for Shadab Khan, Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman to represent the country in the team.
While the Kiwis did not perform well in the opening match, they are unlikely to change their squad much for the second game in the series. In this game, New Zealand will rely heavily on their skipper Tom Latham, Chad Bowes, Mark Chapman, Will Young, James Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell for most of the runs. With 1 six and 4 fours, Mark Chapman scored 34 runs from 27 balls in their last game against the same opposition. Latham contributed 20 runs from 24 balls.
The Kiwi bowling attack is dominated by fast bowlers Adam Milne, Matt Henry, and Ben Lister, who will be expected to take the majority of wickets for the team. Ish Sodhi and Rachin Ravindra will continue to bowl spin for the team to get timely breakthroughs in the first game of the series, where the seamer Matt Henry picked up a hat-trick and conceded 32 runs in four overs. In spite of this effort, the visitors couldn’t make the match in the first meeting.
New Zealand will be looking to win back the series in the second game after losing the first match. Several of the top players in the series will not be available for this match, including Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, and Kane Williamson. There are four batters playing in IPL 2023, including Kane Williams, who is injured at the moment. The required run rate kept on rising despite Latham and Chapman’s great efforts during the recovery.
It is concerning that Pakistan was totally outclassed in their previous match against England. The host team is starting to worry that they are too reliant on their opening duo and would benefit from a stronger performance from the rest of the team.
MATCH PREVIEW
PAKISTAN
The Twenty20 format has evolved, and Pakistan is swiftly realizing that it must move with it. High-scoring stadiums, like the one in Karachi, are an exception to the rule. It’s not only the batting that’s a problem, either. In each of the last two games, Pakistan’s bowlers have given up more than 200 runs.
If you can get Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam out of the way inexpensively, Pakistan is now seen to be beatable. Shan Masood is an aggressive fifty and a great addition to the team, but he should be batting in the top three. That means that Haider Ali has a lot riding on his performance.
Additionally, both Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed would be out of options soon. Pakistan’s bowling assault is below par without Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan. Neither the fast bowlers nor the spinners have been very dangerous, and both have been hit for many of runs.
ENGLAND
Not necessarily for cricketing reasons, England made changes from the team that lost the second match to the team that played in the third. The goal is to have a completely fresh lineup for all seven games by constantly switching people out. It is possible that Alex Hales will return to the lineup for this game.
England’s batting order, wherever it’s configured, is better than Pakistan’s. The top order is solid because to the likes of Phil Salt, Will Jacks, and Alex Hales, and the middle order is solid with to the likes of Ben Duckett, Harry Brooks, and Moeen Ali.
England’s bowlers performed admirably in their previous encounter despite the conditions, but they were also defending a massive target. In their previous match, they gave up 200 runs while taking no wickets. Mark Wood’s presence was crucial, but whether he starts in the upcoming game is still uncertain. When the schedule is crowded with back-to-back matches, he gets some downtime in between.
