Pakistan Needs Selfish Players Like Babar Azam Says Saeed Ajmal

Former Pakistan off-break bowler Saeed Ajmal was effusive in his praise for the national team captain Babar Azam, saying that if such selfishness brings home records, he would not mind having more selfish players like Babar in the team.

Babar Azam has been setting record after record in ODI cricket, and yesterday was one of those regular days for him when he not only retained his top spot (in the ODI batsmen rankings) but also took his team to number one in the ICC charts.

Saeed Ajmal said, ‘Babar became the fastest to 5000 runs (in ODIs), completed his 18th century, and surpassed Virat Kohli to maintain his highest average of 59.85. He has done extremely well with the bat. No words are enough to praise him. People often claim that he (Babar) is a selfish player. I would happily have three to four more selfish players like him in the team.’

Pakistan cruised to a massive 102-run win over New Zealand in Karachi on Friday, helping them take a 4-0 lead in the ongoing five-match ODI series. With the win, Pakistan reached the top spot in the ODI team rankings for the first time since the ICC rankings were introduced in January 2005.
