Mohammad Rizwan Became First Cricketer to Score 2000 Runs in a Calendar Year in T20 History

Pakistan’s right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has set a new precedent in international T20 cricket. Mohammad Rizwan became the first cricketer in T20 history to score 2000 runs in a calendar year. Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The biggest contributor to the controversy was Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman. In the opening match with Babar Azam, he gave the team a good start in almost every match. Rizwan was able to set a precedent against the West Indies in the third match of the series in Karachi.

The West Indies were named to bat first on Thursday. They were able to score 206 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The pair of Brendon King and Shamar Brooks got off to a good start for the Caribbean. The first wicket partnership was 6 runs. King was dismissed for 43 off 21 balls, while Brooks scored 49 off 31 balls. Captain Nicholas Pooran was in Marquette form that day. He scored 74 runs off 36 balls. Darren Bravo remained unbeaten on 34 off 26 balls. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim took two wickets for 44 runs. Shahnawaz Dahani took one wicket in the alliance.

Chasing 206 for victory, Pakistan’s two openers started running at storm speed. The first wicket partnership was 156 runs. Babar Azam was dismissed for 69 off 53 balls. Mohammad Rizwan played an impeccable innings of 6 runs off 45 balls. With this innings, he became the first cricketer to score 2000 runs in a calendar year.

With seven wickets in hand, Pakistan reached the target with seven balls to spare, courtesy of Fakhar Zaman (12 off 7 balls) and Asif Ali’s 21 runs (6 balls). Romario Shepherd, Dominic Drakes and Odian Smith took one wicket each but gave a lot of runs. The Pakistan cricket team beat the West Indies in the series by winning all three matches. Rizwan won both the Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards.
