Michael Bracewell, New Zealand’s in-form all-rounder, has been ruled out of the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup in India due to injury.

Michael Bracewell reportedly ruptured his right Achilles tendon while batting for Worcestershire Rapids in the English T20 Blast.

Bracewell will undergo surgery in the United Kingdom on Thursday, after which he will begin a protracted rehabilitation that will prevent him from competing in the impending ICC Cricket World Cup in India this October-November.

Gary Stead, the coach of New Zealand, stated that it was a major setback for Bracewell and the team.

“First and foremost, you always feel bad for the player when they are injured, especially if it means they will miss a world event,” Stead said.

“Michael is a wonderful team player and has had a tremendous 15 months since making his international debut for the BLACKCAPS.

“We’ve witnessed his extraordinary abilities in all three aspects of the game, and he was gearing up to be a key participant for us at the world cup in India.

Michael is naturally quite dejected, but he recognizes that injuries are a normal part of sports and is now concentrating on his rehabilitation.

Michael Bracewell’s injury is a major setback for New Zealand’s World Cup preparations, as the runner-up from the previous tournament is already without regular captain Kane Williamson, who suffered a severe knee injury during the Indian Premier League.

The examinations revealed that Williamson ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. After the inflammation subsided, he underwent surgery.

In the inaugural match of the tournament between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, Williamson landed gingerly. Due to his injury, he will miss the entire IPL season this year.

However, the absence of the 32-year-old would be devastating for his national team. In 161 ODI matches, the right-handed batsman has scored more than 6000 runs at an average of 47.83.

Under his leadership, New Zealand placed second in the 2019 edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup. They were defeated by England in the epic final that went to Super Over, with the home team ultimately claiming the trophy on the basis of boundary count.
