Ireland Squad for Bangladesh Series 2023 Announced

Cricket Ireland (CI) announced the separate Test, ODI, and T20I squad for the Bangladesh series 2023. However, the squad was changed the day before coming to Bangladesh. Ireland has made three changes from the previous squad announced.

Josh Little has been dropped from the ODI team for the tour of Bangladesh due to an injury while playing in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). Connor Wolfert is out with a knee injury. Instead of Little and Wolfert, all-rounder Fionn Hand has been called up to the Ireland ODI team for the tour of Bangladesh. He has also been included in the Test squad.

Ireland will play a three-match ODI and T20I series and a one-match Test series during the tour of Bangladesh. Ireland has no record of playing Tests against Bangladesh. This is the first time that Bangladesh and Ireland will meet in the Test format. The Ireland team is scheduled to leave the country on Saturday (March 11) to play a full series for the first time. Andrew Balbirnie will lead the team in all three formats.

The Ireland team last visited Bangladesh in 2008 to play a bilateral ODI series. The Irish lost the three-match ODI series 3-0. Besides, Ireland lost by 27 runs to Bangladesh in the group stage match of the ODI World Cup in Mirpur in 2011.

Ireland will start the tour with the ODI series in Sylhet. The three-match ODI series will be held on March 18, 20, and 23 respectively. The T20 series will start on March 27 in Chittagong. The next two matches of the series will be played on March 29 and 31 respectively. The only test in Dhaka will start on April 4.
