Hosting International Events is our Right Says Sarfraz Ahmed
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has come out in support of Pakistan’s right to host the 2023 Asia Cup, which is scheduled for later this year, stating that it is “our right to host international events.”
Since the return of international cricket to Pakistan’s shores, every significant cricketing nation has toured the country, according to the wicket-keeper batsman, who added that there is no reason for any team to refuse to visit Pakistan.
“Our players and law enforcement agencies worked tirelessly to bring cricket back to Pakistan,” he said at the opening of Jinnah College Cricket Stadium in Karachi on Tuesday.
“Many international teams have visited Pakistan, so I believe there is no reason for any nation not to send their team here.”
In addition, Sarfaraz Ahmed emphasized that the Asian Cricket Council and the International Cricket Council should take steps to send all international tournament teams to Pakistan. The 35-year-old also advised India to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, as the country’s citizens were anxious to witness the epic rivalry on their home turf.
Pakistan is a wonderful host. “India ought to visit Pakistan,” he stated. Notably, the fate of the upcoming Asia Cup was held in the balance after India refused to send their team to Pakistan on political grounds in October of last year and has since attempted to move the tournament to a neutral location.
Earlier, it was reported that the two cricket boards were nearing an agreement to host India’s matches at a neutral venue while the remainder of the tournament is held in Pakistan.
According to the most recent development, the BCCI has rejected the hybrid proposal for both events and has once again demanded that the Asia Cup be moved wholly from Pakistan. The fate of the six-team competition will be determined by further discussion between the two rival bodies within the ACC.
