Ashwin was Fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct 2023
Ravichandran Ashwin the off-spinner from Rajasthan Royals has been fined 25 percent of the match fee for breaching the IPL 2023 code of conduct. He criticized the decision of the umpires in the press conference after the match against Chennai Super Kings. Which was not taken well by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In the twelfth over of Chennai’s innings, the umpires changed the ball soon after Shivam Dube was lbw off Ashwin. Usually, the umpires decide to change the ball at the request of the fielding team if there is a problem in gripping the ball due to dew. But Ashwin said that no such thing was asked from Rajasthan in this match. He could not be happy with the umpire’s decision.
Ashwin’s statement was deemed by the match referee to have violated Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Which is considered a level 1 offense by the match referee. No formal hearing was required as the all-rounder pleaded guilty.
After the match against Chennai, Ashwin said, ‘I was very surprised when the umpires changed the ball for Dew. Never seen that before. To be honest, some of the on-field decisions in the IPL this year have confused me quite a bit. I want to say that whether it is right or wrong or in the middle, good or bad, all sides have created confusion. I think a little balance is needed.’
