Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka ODI Series 2023 Announced
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced that the national team will travel to Sri Lanka in early June to compete in a three-match ODI series 2023. The contests will take place at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on June 2, 4, and 7.
The series is part of a long-term agreement between the two nations to prepare for tournaments such as the ACC Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will take place in October and November of this year. The squad is anticipated to arrive in Sri Lanka on May 29 in order to commence preparations.
Regarding this event, we are satisfied with our communications and the outcome of our negotiations with Sri Lanka Cricket. In addition to a comprehensive ICC Future Tours Program, the ACB is committed to organizing additional bilateral series with the other boards.
In preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, we are working diligently to schedule more bilateral matches for our national team,’ said Naseeb Khan, CEO of the Australian Cricket Board, in a media release.
“Our previous tour to Sri Lanka was an incredible experience in which both countries played competitive cricket, and we look forward to engaging in some high-octane cricket once again,” he added.
The forthcoming June ODI series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will mark Afghanistan’s return to Sri Lanka for the first time since their last tour in November 2022.
During that tour, the countries played a series in which Afghanistan won the first ODI by 60 runs and Sri Lanka won the third ODI to tie the series. The second contest was ruled a no-contest.
It will mark the return of international men’s cricket to the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota, which last hosted an ODI in February 2020.
